Butadiene
butadiene is produced through the processing of petroleum and is mainly used in the production of synthetic rubber, but is also found in smaller amounts in plastics and fuel.
Butadiene is the organic compound with the formula (CH₂=CH)₂. It is a colorless gas that is easily condensed to a liquid. It is important industrially as a precursor to synthetic rubber. The molecule can be viewed as the union of two vinyl groups
Its production feed is ethylene and is produced from the Olefin unit.
Types :
- Polybutadiene rubber (PBR)
- Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR)
- Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)
Applications:
In industrial trend, it is used for polymerization reaction, for example, it is used with maleic anhydride to obtain tetrahydrophthalic anhydride or with styrene monomer to produce carboxylated styrene butadiene latex. This element is an important monomer in the production of polymers such as polybutadiene, styrene-butadiene and butadiene-methyl styrene rubber, nitrile rubber, butadiene-methyl vinyl pyridine rubber, etc. In addition, it is used in the industry to produce synthetic latex, adipodinitrile and sebacic acid, but its most use is in the rubber industry.
